This is an older shortwave radio which may have been manufactured during the 1970s. In addition to shortwave, it also receives two police bands, AM, FM, CB, VHF aircraft, and the weather band. Shortwave is split into two parts, the Marine Band (1.6-4MHz) and 4-12MHz. There is a good telescoping antenna, but no external antenna jack. Reception on all bands is very good, and there are controls for squelch, fine tuning, and tone. The tuning dial frequency markings are more accurate than those of most similar radios. The radio is portable, but heavy, and runs off of 4 "C" batteries or the built-in power cord. It does not have a DC input jack, so it is not possible to operate it using a cigarette lighter power cord. The speaker provides sound of good quality even at a high volume. This is a very good radio for many purposes, including monitoring communications bands and listening to international broadcasts. Unfortunately, it is somewhat difficult to find, although it can occasionally be found at internet auction websites or pawn shops. Similar models which were also part of the Airline series are slightly more common.
